A Dead Monster!

Mumford & Sons covering 'Friend of the Devil'? Kurt Vile and the Violators (featuring J Mascis) doing 'Box of Rain'? The Flaming Lips playing 'Dark Star'?
Very quietly over the last four years, the Dessner brothers, Aaron and Bryce (of The National fame), have been assembling Dead parts, creating their own take on Frankenstein's Monster, a giant, lumbering beast - a 5 CD, six-hour, 60+ artist Grateful Dead Tribute they're unleashing on the world on May 20th, a new entry in the Red Hot Organization's series of fundraising discs.

It looks (and, so far, sounds) pretty cool! 4AD released details and pre-order info this past week, as well as a sampling of songs. Check out Phosphorescent with Jenny Lewis and Friends doing "Sugaree" and The War On Drugs covering "Touch of Grey".

You can also sample the Dessner's band The National's cover of  'Morning Dew' right now, as well as Bruce Hornsby's and DeYarmond Edison's take on 'Black Muddy River' and Courtney Barnett doing 'New Speedway Boogie'.

Here's the 4AD Press Release, with the full list of cover tunes:

4AD - Various - Day of the Dead (Red Hot Compilation)
Day of the Dead was created and curated by brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National.  The compilation is a wide-ranging tribute to the songwriting and experimentalism of the Dead which took four years to record, features over 60 artists from varied musical backgrounds, 59 tracks and is almost 6 hours long. You can see the full tracklisting below.
Day of the Dead will be released digitally, on a 5 X CD, and as a limited edition vinyl boxed set.
All profits will help fight for AIDS/ HIV and related health issues around the world through the Red Hot Organization, a 501(c)3. This is the 20th album of original music produced by Red Hot to further its mission. Day of the Dead is the follow up to 2009’s Dark Was The Night(4AD), a 32-track, multi-artist compilation also produced by Aaron and Bryce for Red Hot. Dark Was The Night has raised over $1.5 million for the organizations fighting AIDS to date.

New Collection! ...For Subscribers ONLY!

You want it... You need it... You have to have it!

The Glow-in-the-Dark Radio Guide to Life!!

Your exclusive reward for joining the Glow-in-the-Dark Radio eMail list!

The eBook of Alibi Jones is now available for FREE almost everywhere, so it no longer made sense to offer it as a reward or "premium" for joining the list. So, now when you become a subscriber, you'll get something not available elsewhere, this new, exclusive collection, The Glow-in-the-Dark Radio Guide to Life (2016 Edition).

Within you'll find art by some of the amazing artists I collaborate with on comics, and a prose work of mine you now can't find anywhere else, "Alibi Jones and the Ghost in the Machine" which I'd not intended to release ever again, not publicly. But? Seemed perfect to include in this semi-private, exclusive collection. There are other goodies as well!

Included in the collection:

Alibi Jones and the Ghost in the Machine
By Mike Luoma

Had not intended to release this short story ever again. It originally appeared in the now out-of-print anthology Hunting Ghosts. The story has been pulled apart and woven into Alibi Jones and the Hornet's Nest, used and altered in some ways to fit into the context of the novel. You can now enjoy it, once again, in its original form.

Years in the making, The Adventures of Alibi Jones comic book issue two is finally coming out soon, including this story in its entirety. You get an advance preview here!

Alibi Jones Cover and Pin-up Gallery

Fred's art for the three covers for the Alibi Jones novels – unencumbered by title graphics – as well as his pin-up art from the comic books.

Future Works – Work-in-Progress Art

More from Federico Guillen – interior pencils from the upcoming Good Samaritan: Unto Dust issue two. And pencils and inks from Juan Carlos Quattordio for "Introducing... RED HOT!" issue three in the works.

Vatican Assassin – The Graphic Novel – Excerpt
Written and Lettered by Mike Luoma
Art by Cristian Navarro

Read a part of the Graphic Novel adaptation of Vatican Assassin and get a taste of how the novel might translate to the big screen – and maybe discover a way to enjoy the story anew.

Excerpts from The Vatican Assassin Trilogy Index - The History of The Future & More

After writing the original short story that turned into The Vatican Assassin Trilogy, to work further on the piece I wanted – needed – to extrapolate how we got from the end of the 1990's to the year 2109 when the novel begins. Some of this background material has been released in The Vatican Assassin Index. These excerpts from that collection tell the supposed future from 2020 through the 2070's. There's also some of BC's Biography and The Alien Timeline.

Once Again - this EXCLUSIVE collection is ONLY available to members of the Glow-in-the-Dark Radio email list! Want to sign up? Go here now: http://eepurl.com/0_Z7z - Or sign up on the blog's sidebar!
