Newly Recorded Versions of VATICAN ASSASSIN & AMBASSADOR @ Podiobooks

This past summer, as I was gearing up to release my new ALIBI JONES AND THE SUNRISE OF HUR, I had a period on the Glow-in-the-Dark Radio podcast without any new material, and so embarked on a re-podcast of Vatican Assassin and Vatican Ambassador. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I ended up re-recording chapters 26 on to the end in Vatican Assassin - those new recordings are now up at Podiobooks: http://podiobooks.com/title/vatican-assassin-remastered/

Got even more ambitious with Vatican Ambassador - the first half of the book, through chapter 12, has been completely revised, rewritten and rerecorded! It's now a better book than I was capable of writing ten years ago.: http://podiobooks.com/title/vatican-ambassador/

The new recordings also reflect - I hope - a greater knowledge of audio book presentation than I had four years ago when first releasing the audiobooks. These new files are longer and larger, not so much due to the rewriting as to the slowed-down pace of the presentation.

Hope you enjoy BOTH the new recordings for VATICAN ASSASSIN and the newly revised and rerecorded chapters of VATICAN AMBASSADOR. Let me know what you think of the fresh takes!

Book "Birth" Announcement

Been sending out my good news! Here's the "birth announcement" email:

Hope you don't mind a note from me about my new novel – my books are like my babies – this is a kind of "birth" announcement! I'm proudly announcing the wide release of my new science fiction adventure Alibi Jones and The Sunrise of Hur!

A mediator for the Solar Alliance in the 2130s, Alibi Jones is searching for a stolen Dakhur artifact - the golden tiara with a blood red gem, The Sunrise of Hur. It's a cultural treasure, the property and pride of the Dakhur race. Unfortunately, Alibi isn't supposed to land on the planet he most wants to investigate – Kismet, home of the crime lord Rene Laveillur, who has claimed Alibi's on-and-off girlfriend Katerina Ramsey as his property. Alibi's warned – he lands on Kismet, he's a dead man!

Alibi Jones and The Sunrise of Hur is now available in paperback & for your Kindle at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Alibi-Jones-The-Sunrise-Hur/dp/1300203315/

There's already a nice 5-star review there: "This book is the second in the Alibi Jones series, but you won't have to read the first book for this to be a good read (and make sense!). ...The story is well written, and you will lose yourself in the characters as they struggle with personal issues while trying to do the right thing. Without giving spoilers, the ending will leave you wanting more."

I'm still doing everything publishing and promotion-wise myself and so appreciate any help in spreading the word you can offer. Maybe there's someone you know who likes science fiction to whom you could forward this email? Or if you feel like it, perhaps you could post a link on facebook or Twitter, or G+? My website http://glowinthedarkradio.com has info and links to all the places the book is on sale. There's also a link there for my podcast - I read the chapters of the new novel as a free audio book each week on Glow-in-the-Dark Radio: http://glowinthedarkradio.podomatic.com. Give a listen if you have a chance.

Thanks for letting me share my good news with you!

Onward...

The Laughing Array!

So what if no one has been to the Mad Planet Metcalf in the last 20 years because the original colonists were mysteriously driven insane... should still be a fun place to visit, right? Alibi Jones is on his way there - in the new chapter of the audio book of the science fiction adventure novel Alibi Jones and the Sunrise of Hur you're about to hear on this episode of Glow-in-the-Dark Radio!

Get quickly caught up on the story so far and then dive into the chapter as writer Mike Luoma reads from his new novel. There's book news this week, too – Alibi Jones and The Sunrise of Hur is now available in paperback at Amazon.com as well as for your Kindle as an eBook. Listen in for more details.

Finding Finder

Audio science fiction! The Adventures of Alibi Jones continue on Glow-in-the-Dark Radio with chapter six of Alibi Jones and the Sunrise of Hur. Meet one of my favorite new characters: Finder. He's kind of like The Dude meets Tommy Chong. Finder doesn't find things himself so much as he finds people who can get their hands on the things he needs to track down - or they find him. In tribute to some of my artist friends, Alibi meets Finder on the beach in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Had a lot of fun recording this chapter, doing the voice for Finder, and voicing Alibi reacting to the man. Add in a brief Wentworth appearance towards the end and the pilot Drex throughout and there are a lot of character voices going on here. Hope you enjoy the interpretation!

Finder has appeared before, actually, in my audio short story ALIBI JONES & THE WISHING STONE. That's in the audio anthology The Adventures of Alibi Jones: Six Short Stories which, although it came out last year, takes place after the new novel. ALIBI JONES AND THE WISHING STONE w/art by Meisha will appear next year in The Adventures of Alibi Jones #2 from Earthbound Comics.

Free Kindle E-book Competition Giveaway

Want something for nothing?

Today I'm giving away 25 free copies of my new e-book ALIBI JONES AND THE SUNRISE OF HUR. The rules are simple. All you have to do is tweet the following phrase, or post it as your Facebook status:

I want a #free #kindle copy of ALIBI JONES AND THE SUNRISE OF HUR by Mike Luoma – Love Science Fiction! http://amzn.com/B009BV7CHS

Easy, isn’t it?

You must include the link to the Amazon page for your entry to count (try and include the hashtags if on Twitter).

Once you're done, come back here to the blog and show me proof, a screenshot or whatever. You can put it up on Photobucket or somewhere and put a link below. Or you can get creative.

In fact, you can both tweet it and post it as your Facebook status, and that counts as two entries. If you come up with another creative or amusing way to spread this message, that will count as another entry too.

If you don’t want to post your proof below, you can email it to glowinthedarkradio at gmail dot com and that will also count.

Finally, if you retweet news of this competition, blog about it, put a link to this post up on Facebook, or promote it in some other way, and come back here and show me (or email me), that will count as another entry in the draw.

This isn’t just open to Kindle owners, or those with the free Kindle program installed on their computer or phone that allows them to read Kindle e-books. If you have a Nook or another e-reader, I can provide you with the correct format instead.

There will be spot prizes for particularly amusing, creative or effective entries given at the whim of our esteemed panel of judges, i.e. me. I'm thinking comics, other books...

The competition runs from now until Wednesday night at midnight PDT time (that’s 3 a.m. on the East Coast of the US or 8 a.m. in London).

Winners will be announced tomorrow.

Sound like fun?

Please note that if you are a new commenter on my blog, I have to manually approve your comments. Don’t worry if your comment doesn’t appear – I still got it, and your entry counts!

(This competition is modeled on an excellent one run by David Gaughran - http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com)

Artist Sought For 12 Page Science Fiction Comic

I've just finished the script for a 12 page comic book story featuring my character Alibi Jones. Now I need an artist to help me bring it to life! It will be published in The Adventures of Alibi Jones #2 from Earthbound Comics. I'm also the letterer and do the production work. I'd like to find someone who does both pencils and inks – that way the team is close to complete (Earthbound works with some good color people, so that's not essential).

With Earthbound we don't make anything up front, but we do get an issue, back end percentage, and copies at cost for local and con sales. Not perfect but not bad. Working with them is kind of a cooperative effort. I've liked working with Earthbound. If you're on pencils and inks, you're my collaborator on this story, in for 49% of the IP aside from the previously created characters and designs. That means anything more happens with this story, you're part of it.

I'll also create an audio version of the story to help promote it, and distribute it on my Glow-in-the-Dark Radio podcast, found each week on iTunes and at ComicRelated.com.

If your interested in doing the pencils and inks for this 12 page story, please get in touch with me – Mike Luoma – at: glowinthedarkradio (at) gmail (dot) com.

I'll be doing a reading from my upcoming new novel Alibi Jones and the Sunrise of Hur Saturday night at 7pm, as well as joining in as a panelist on several cool topics - "Dancing Around Time Travel" - "So You Want To Write A Series" - "Comic Books As Modern Mythology" - "Building A Better God" - "Religion In Science Fiction" - "Which Way To the Barsoom" - "Self Publishing" & "A Song Of Ice And Fire"

Hope to see you this weekend!

Good Samaritan: Unto Dust #1 - Out Today!

My new book is out! Earthbound Comics has just released  Good Samaritan: Unto Dust #1. Created and written by me, the beautiful illustrations are by the crazily talented Federico Guillen. He and I released this book ourselves about a year and a half ago. It's now been picked up by Ben Ferrari and Earthbound Comics. Color has been added by the amazing Ken Lateer, and I've redone the lettering in color. Did a little editing, too. So it's a brand-new edition - and it's beautiful!
